Topnotch Resort in Stowe Announces Major Expansion with 27 Luxury Residences
The project centers on a new three-story building that will house fully furnished residences ranging from one to four bedrooms.
Topnotch Resort, a well-known destination property on Mountain Road in Stowe, Vermont, announced plans on November 13, 2025, for a significant expansion and renovation project. The development will add 27 luxury residences to the resort and includes comprehensive upgrades to existing facilities.
The New Residences
The project centers on a new three-story building that will house fully furnished residences ranging from one to four bedrooms. According to the announcement from Topnotch Resort, the residences will span between 1,000 and 2,400 square feet. Each unit will feature open floor plans, furnishings by RH, large windows with Green Mountain views, and access to climate-controlled underground parking with private storage.
Some residences will include dens, media rooms, private terraces, and adjacent lock-off studio suites. The building will connect to the main resort through the lobby.
Residence owners will have full access to all resort amenities, including the spa, fitness center, tennis academy, pools, restaurants, and mountain biking trails. They will also have the option to enroll their properties in a rental management program to generate income when not using the residences personally.
Resort Renovations
Alongside the new construction, Topnotch plans to renovate its existing facilities. The project includes an expanded lobby, upgrades to all 68 hotel rooms, renovations to both resort restaurants (including a reimagining of The Roost), and restoration work on the spa and pools.
Matthew Wheeler, Area General Manager of Topnotch Resort, stated that the project “represents a thoughtful evolution of Topnotch that honors the resort’s legacy while elevating every aspect of the guest experience.”
Project Timeline and Operations
Construction is scheduled to begin in 2026 and will be completed in phases. The resort will remain open during construction to minimize disruption to guests and operations.
Development Team
The project involves several companies:
Developer: AWH Partners, a New York City-based real estate investment firm that acquired Topnotch Resort in 2018
Operator & Management: Spire Hospitality, a national hospitality management company
Architecture: VOCON, a national architecture and design firm
Interior Design: RH for the residences; VOCON for resort public areas
Sales: Coldwell Banker Carlson of Stowe
Chad Cooley, Co-founder and Managing Partner of AWH Partners, said the improvements will “position Topnotch for its next era while maintaining the intimate, authentic Vermont experience our guests have treasured for decades.”
Economic Impact
The project is expected to create approximately 500 construction jobs during the building phase. Once completed, the enhanced resort is projected to add an estimated 28 to 34 permanent positions in areas including hospitality, spa services, food and beverage, and property management.
The expansion is also expected to increase annual visitor spending in the Stowe region, which could benefit local restaurants, retailers, and recreational outfitters in Lamoille County.
