Blue Sea Capital announced Sept. 1 that it had closed its acquisition of a majority stake in CompletePet, which develops and manufactures soft chews, powders, oils, sprays and dental products for pet supplement brands. Financial terms were not disclosed. CompletePet’s management team is putting its own money back into the deal, and CEO Worth Turner and the existing leadership stay on to run the business.
The Vermont piece of CompletePet is the former Green Mountain Animal, and it is not a small operation.
The Milton plant is a 60,000-square-foot facility at 75 Catamount Drive that opened in 2022. When the Town of Milton held a business social there that May, the town’s own announcement described a building housing a set of mixers, two twin-screw extruders, an automated packaging line and a lab for small-batch samples — and said the company employed more than 70 workers, most of them from Chittenden and Franklin counties. That headcount is four years old and the company has changed hands twice since, but it is the last figure either the town or the company has put on the record.
The plant is still hiring under the Green Mountain Animal name, with CompletePet named in the job descriptions. Recent postings list production workers at $18 to $22 an hour, a weigh-room attendant at $19 to $20, a shipping specialist at $21.50 and a product developer and formulator at $24 to $28. At full time, the production wage works out to roughly $37,000 to $46,000 a year.
Green Mountain Animal was founded by Dale and Keeli Metz. Dale Metz is a longtime animal health executive and a founding member of the National Animal Supplement Council, the pet supplement industry’s trade association. The company built its business making extruded soft chews and powders for other brands — a contract manufacturer, meaning it does not sell products under its own label but formulates and produces them for the companies that do.
In February 2025, Green Mountain Animal was acquired by Custom Veterinary Services, a Florida manufacturer backed by the private equity firm Align Capital Partners. The two companies were rebranded as CompletePet. That announcement said the Milton operations would stay in place, and framed the Vermont acquisition as adding capabilities the Florida side did not have: Custom Veterinary made liquids, topicals, grooming products and toothpastes, while Vermont brought the soft chew and powder manufacturing.
Align acquired the Florida business in 2021, added the Milton plant in 2025, and sold the combined company a year and a half later.
That sequence is worth holding onto. The Milton plant is not an outpost the new owners inherited. It is a capability the company went out and bought, and the combined business is what Blue Sea has now paid to control.
Blue Sea says it focuses on growth-oriented middle-market health care companies worth up to $500 million and manages more than $2.3 billion. It says it plans to support further growth and product innovation at CompletePet as demand for pet health and wellness products expands.
Neither company has said what that means for Milton specifically — no employment target, no expansion figure, no investment number. The Sept. 1 announcement contains no commitment about Vermont beyond the existing footprint, and no price for the deal.
What Milton has is a 60,000-square-foot manufacturing plant, more than 70 jobs at the last public count, two extruders running in a product category that has been growing for a decade, and a firm managing $2.3 billion that just paid to own it.
