Front Porch Forum Members Warned of Out-Of-State Scammers
Founder warns that scammers might use member's emails to contact them directly.
Front Porch Forum (FPF) the free, hyper-local social network based in Burlington and serving hundreds of communities in Vermont, has issued an email to its members about out-of-state scammers have been contacting some members directly to their email.
FPF hosts online neighborhood forums covering every town in Vermont, parts of upstate New York, and a few communities in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Each forum is restricted to residents of specific neighborhoods or towns, who must register with their real name and address to participate.
This message was sent to all members of Front Porch Forum:
Front Porch Forum has detected recent evidence of out-of-state scammers targeting a small number of our members. They have reached out directly to members via email. Your digital security is a high priority for us, and we are taking immediate steps to address this issue.
As with all email interactions, through FPF or otherwise, please act with caution when contacted by someone you don't already know, particularly when it comes to paying for something, making a donation, or sharing personal information.
If you receive an email message that seems suspicious to you in response to an FPF posting, please forward it to us at membersupport@frontporchforum.com for investigation.
From finding lost dogs to sharing garden veggies, FPF is a great place to connect with neighbors and build community. Our Vermont staff work hard every day to keep it that way. Thanks, as always, for being an FPF member.
