The full story regarding the events of Wednesday March 11th on Dorset St in So Burlington has not yet been fully and accurately told in our media. Unfortunately, when information is left out and inflammatory language is used to report events, it hinders our ability as a community to understand and act upon the events for the safety of all.

I hope that there will be a concerted effort for reporting to include the stories of those who sought to protect the rights of people fleeing unlawful detainment. I appreciate your reporting about the South Burlington Police Department. What was the role of the other Vermont law enforcement personnel? Were Vermont's laws regarding how our police protect and serve Vermonters respected by our law enforcement?

Thank you for your reporting and your service to the Vermont community.

Thank you for reading and for the thoughtful comment, Kathleen.

Compass Vermont's reporting on the March 11 incident drew on multiple sources, including law enforcement statements, eyewitness accounts, and publicly available video footage. We work hard to ensure our language reflects what is documented rather than any particular interpretation of events.

You raise questions that others have raised as well. There are many accounts of that day that contain troubling information, and we take them seriously. Our standard, however, is to report only what we can fully verify as accurate — and on a story this charged, that bar matters more than ever.

What we can say with confidence is that the events of March 11 have not been good for Vermont or for the country, regardless of where one stands on the underlying issues. That shared reality is something we'll keep in mind as our reporting continues.

Thank you for your reply, and for your care in reporting. I wonder if perhaps we have a choice about whether the events of March 11 can provide positive lessons for Vermont and for Federal law enforcement. I hope so.

........." the stories of those who sought to protect the rights of people fleeing unlawful detainment."........and whom might that be? Please explain.

Thank you, Art, for your calm and straightforward question. To my knowledge, none of those taken from the house were on any warrant. These people were in their home. What was the basis for their detainment? None have been charged, and one was released yesterday.

If we apply the principle, "innocent until proven guilty," that is what I am talking about.

I hope that helps you understand what I was saying. Sorry my reply took so long.
