We picked this one for a subhead, not a headline: the Nulhegan plan a cultural hub at the former Covenant Hills camp, echoing a promise made to Chief Philip in 1796.
That stopped us. A promise made in 1796 — by whom, to whom, and how does a Methodist summer camp end up sitting on top of it 230 years later? Most coverage of this transfer ran the ceremony and moved on. North Star went back and traced the deed, the families who signed it, and what happened to the land in between. It’s the rare local story where the history isn’t decoration.
