Box Truck Stopped from Hitting Lyndonville Covered Bridge by Headache Barrier
Lyndonville Police Department Press Release
On 08/25/2025, at approximately 0912 hours, the Lyndonville Police Department
responded to the intersections of Center Street and Stevens Loop Road for a
report that a Box Truck had struck the bridge barriers on the North side of the
bridge, causing damage to the vehicle and the barrier.
On arrival, a Blue Mack Box truck bearing an Illinois registration was found
parked at the Park and Ride. The truck belonging to ASAP Expedite Inc. out of
Chicago, Illinois, was being operated by Maja Jankovic (52), also from Chicago.
Jankovic stated that she was following the GPS that directed her onto Center
Street. Jankovic was issued a Vermont Civil Violation for failing to obey traffic
control devices (signs), as she had passed signs indicating the proper height limit
for crossing the bridge. The call was treated as a motor vehicle accident with
property damage, as the Town of Lyndon sustained extensive property damage
to the bridge barrier.
Damage to the Blue 2023 Mack Box Truck included approximately six feet of roof
being torn off and the headboard being separated from the box. Jankovic was
not injured during the collision.
The Town of Lyndon Road Crew was called to the scene to assess the damage to
the barrier. The Barrier sustained the following damage: The top beam and
decorative feature were bent and damaged, both legs were twisted, the
attachment welds at the top of the legs held but twisted, several bolts sheared,
and there was possible damage to one of the concrete piers. Lyndon Road Crew
advised that what remained of the barrier was still safe for the general flow of
traffic, but was uncertain about another box truck strike.
