A 28-day closure of VT Route 12 in Braintree began on July 19, 2022, to replace the deck and beams of Bridge No. 47 over Ayers Brook.

The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) reports that the bridge has extensive saturation throughout with varying-sized areas of rust staining.
"This structure should be considered for replacement due to wide spread deterioration of the deck, thus allowing for an improved roadway alignment and hydraulic opening," the report said in 2021.
During the closure, traffic will be detoured along VT Route 12A. Truck traffic should be advised of low overpasses along this route with a 13-foot clearance in the Town of Roxbury and a 13-foot 6-inch clearance in the Town of Northfield. Vehicles that exceed these limitations should use I-89. Please plan accordingly.
Signage reporting the closing is in place on both sides of the bridge.
