Claims must be filed by February 22, 2023, to qualify for a payment.

Potential claimants can visit www.bagfeesettlement.com or call 1-877-868-6827 for more information.

The lawsuit claims that American Airlines incorrectly charged certain customers fees to check their baggage. American denies the allegations in the lawsuit, and the Court did not decide who is right. The case is called Cleary et al. v. American Airlines, Inc., No. 4:21-cv-00184-O (N.D. Tex).

The “Settlement Classes” include American customers who were charged checked baggage fees inconsistent with representations made by American after February 24, 2017, for tickets purchased prior to April 9, 2020. The airline will refund 100% of baggage fees to Settlement Class Members who file a verified claim, paying at least $7.5 million total to those Settlement Class Members who file a verified claim.

Compass Vermont is a sucker for ad slogans and has offered its services for a new slogan to honor the American Airlines we know and loathe. See if any of these seem a little more accurate than its current slogan "You are why we fly."

  • Baggage fees are likely to shift during the flight.
  • At American Airlines, we're not happy until you're not happy.
  • From less legroom to bogus bag fees, we know how to squeeze.
  • No matter how bad your flight is, you still can't have the full can of soda.
